Prolotheray (“Proliferative Injection Therapy”) is a very effective
treatment for the management of musculoskeletal pain. The therapy
targets relaxed or damaged connective tissue (Ligaments, tendons and
cartilage) that are often responsible for pain and instability. The
therapy involves injecting a dextrose solution (sugar), bacterial
static water and lidocaine into these structures and stimulating a |

process in these tissues. ligaments have difficulty healing from
injuries. These structures typically heal to only 70% of their
pre-injury tensile strength. This sets the body up for repetitive
injuries and general wear and tear to the stability of joints, leading
to chronic pain and discomfort.
More and more the public has growing concerns for long term drug and
surgical management of musculoskelatal pain. This is not to say that
these therapies don’t have their place, however there are very safe and
effective alternatives available, such as prolotherapy.
As of April 2005, doctors at the Mayo Clinic began supporting
prolotherapy. Mayo Clinic doctors list the areas that are most likely
to benefit from prolotherapy treatment as ankles, knees, elbows, and
the sacroiliac joint at the low back. They report that "unlike steroid
injections — which may provide temporary relief — prolotherapy involves
a more permanent strengthening and healing by stimulating tissue
growth."
Ligament and tendon structures are found on every aspect of skelatal
structure and our often responsible for all sorts of pain and
instability. A quick examination by a trained physician can determine
if prolotherapy is a good treatment for your medical needs.
